Purpose of this course?
PURPOSE The purpose of the Sustainable Sanitation Management short learning course is to equip participants with relevant knowledge, as well as management, planning and implementation skills on Water and Sanitation Management. Participants from Water Services Authorities, Water and Sanitation Providers as well as all Water Users will thus be able to make informed decisions on the management of water and sanitation in municipalities and other affected areas. In addition, knowledge on the water and sanitation management will advance the implementation of National and Provincial Water and Sanitation policies of the Republic of South Africa.

PROGRAMME DETAILS
This Certificate in Sustainable Sanitation Management programme will be offered at the University of Limpopo (TURFLOOP CAMPUS) and the programme will take 6 months to complete in a block release manner, and it is designed to meet the NQF 5 exit level descriptors.

INTRODUCTION TO THE SUSTAINABLE SANITATION MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME
About Lesson

Module 1: Sanitation Planning and Public Health will be conducted in the first 2 weeks, week 1 being classroom teachings and engagements, while the following week 2 will be report back in the form of presentations, handing in and discussion of assignments and the assessment test on the last day of the second week.

 

Module 2: Faecal Sludge Management and Urine Harvesting will be conducted over a period of 4 weeks (week 3 to week 6). The first 2 weeks will be classroom teachings and engagements. Week 3 of this module will work integrated learning at the workplace where candidates will conduct research and practicals. The 4th week will be report back in the form of presentations, handing in and discussion of assignments and the assessment test on the last day of the week.

 

Module 3: Wastewater, The Untapped Resource will be conducted over a period of 4 weeks (week 7 to week 10). The first 2 weeks will be classroom teachings and engagements. Week 3 of this module will work integrated learning at the workplace where candidates will conduct research and practicals. The 4th week will be report back in the form of presentations, handing in and discussion of assignments and the assessment test on the last day of the week.

 

Module 4: Sanitation Management Today and in the Future will be conducted in the  weeks 11 and 12 of this programme, week 11 being classroom teachings and engagements, while the following week 12 will be report back in the form of presentations, handing in and discussion of assignments and the assessment test on the last day of the second week.

 

Module 5: Sustainable Sanitation Applications and the Environment will be conducted over 3 weeks, the first 2 weeks (week 13 and 14) being classroom teachings and engagements and week 15 will be report back in the form of presentations, handing in and discussion of assignments and the assessment test on the last day of the second week.
